Julia Yeomans awarded the EPJE Pierre-Gilles de Gennes Lecture Prize

The European Physical Journal E (EPJE) has awarded the Pierre-Gilles de Gennes Lecture Prize to Professor Julia Yeomans of the University of Oxford, UK. She receives the prize for her outstanding contributions in the field of soft matter and biological physics. The prize, accompanied by 1,000 euros, is named after the Nobel laureate and EPJE founder de Gennes. The award ceremony will take place in Rome at the International Soft Matter Conference 2013, which runs from 15 to 19 September. Professor Daan Frenkel, Co-Editor-in-Chief of EPJE, will introduce Professor Yeomans' plenary lecture at this meeting.

Julia Yeomans has been chosen as recipient of the prize for her profound contribution to the study of the dynamical behavior of complex and active liquids in confined geometries. She is an expert in theoretical and computational physics, particularly statistical physics, hydrodynamics, soft condensed matter and biological physics. Among her current research interests are micro-swimmers, active systems, liquid crystals and the interactions of fluids with structured surfaces. Professor Yeomans was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society (UK) in May 2013.
