Top aging research experts to present at 43rd Annual American Aging Association Conference

The American Aging Association annual conference will be held from Friday, May 30-Monday, June 2, 2014, at The Westin Riverwalk Hotel, 420 W Market Street, San Antonio, TX 78205.

The theme of the main conference is "Slowing Aging: Signaling, Stress Resistance, Stem Cells, and Small Molecules, Insights from Old and New Models." A preconference symposium will focus on the role of mitochondria, the body's cellular compartments that generate the majority of the energy that fuels daily activities, in aging.

The conference features a number of noteworthy presentations and events.

  • A keynote lecture by Toren Finkel, M.D., Ph.D., National Institutes of Health, on the role of a protein called mTOR in the biology of aging
  • Presentations on how the internal circadian clock, our body's natural rhythm, can affect lifespan
  • An in-depth look at the newly discovered FAT10 gene and how it might revolutionize the field of aging research
  • Profiles of animals in the wild and why some live longer than others
  • A Friday evening panel discussion on the prospects for increased healthspan and the role of aging research that is open to the public
