Employment trends in chemical and pharma industries is ACS Webinars topic

Employment trends and projections for chemical and pharmaceutical scientists is the topic of the next in a series of American Chemical Society (ACS) Webinars™ for scientists and chemical professionals.

Scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 24, from 2 - 3 p.m. EST, the free webinar features Gareth Edwards, a researcher at ACS, and Brian Roberts and Roger J. Moncarz, economists with the Employment Projections Program at the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Participants will learn about:

• How ACS calculates unemployment -- who is counted
  
• Recent unemployment trends among ACS survey respondents
  
• How BLS calculates occupational employment projections Finding the bright spot - educated workforce and projected growth sectors in chemistry

As a researcher with the ACS, Edward's focus is on compensation for chemists, chemical engineers, and related fields. He studied physics and business at the George Washington University in Washington D.C.

Roberts conducts research on the scientific workforce, and has degrees in economics from Villanova University and Johns Hopkins University.

Moncarz is an economist with the Employment Projections Program at the BLS. He is the branch chief for Occupational Outlook Studies, where he oversees occupational projections for more than 700 occupations and helps produce the Occupational Outlook Handbook. He has degrees in economics and political science from the University of Michigan. He also has an M.B.A. from the University of Maryland.
