Progress in Osteoporosis re-launched with new design, now invites commentary
The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) has published the first issue of the newly revised Progress in Osteoporosis (PIO). Available online on the IOF website at http://www.iofbonehealth.org/sub-hubs/progress-in-osteoporosis, the monthly journal is edited by renowned bone expert and author Professor Ego Seeman of the University of Melbourne.
The free online journal has been revised in terms of design and content, placing increased focus on critical review. A new option invites commentary by readers.
Professor Seeman commented on the journal's revised scope and intention to provide deeper understanding and critical thinking in the bone field. "The purpose of PIO, which began as Advances in Osteoporosis 19 years ago, was to give readers without easy access to research summaries of the most important recent literature. We now inhabit a virtual world. Information is instantaneously accessible to all at the tap of a keyboard. Understanding is not."
The new PIO reflects this development: Its new format continues to provide critical evaluation of the important literature, but now also promotes discussion by inviting assessment of the quality of information published.
IOF COO Judy Stenmark stated, "This is surely the most unique online scientific forum in the bone field. The Editor is renowned for his outspoken critique – and I am certain readers will enjoy the opportunity to participate through online commentary."
