Beyond the Genome

Biomed Central the open access publisher is proud to present in conjunction with its journals Genome Medicine and Genome Biology the third annual Beyond the Genome conference, taking place at Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA from 27-29 September 2012.

Following the conference's previous success, this year's focuses will be on next-generation sequencing and other new technologies, informatics tools and how these are being used to identify common and rare disease-causing mutations in the research laboratory and toward the clinic.

Highlighting the important issue of the 'data deluge' in genomics, the conference will open with an informatics workshop which will be followed by two days concentrating on the applications of high-throughput technologies in inherited disease, cancer, and epigenomics. Ethical aspects will also be considered.

Throughout the sessions there will be an important focus on abstract submissions. Rebecca Furlong, Editor of Genome Medicine, states, "We are keen to encourage PhD students and postdocs, and talks selected from submitted abstracts will form an important part of the program." The conference will also include "a special 'meet the editors' breakfast session for young scientists". Keynote talks are from Richard Gibbs (Baylor College of Medicine, USA) and Stuart Schreiber (Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT, USA).
