IASLC awarded accreditation as continuing medical education provider

August 24th, 2012

The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) has been awarded Provisional Accreditation as a Continuing Medical Education (CME) provider by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).

A two-year term of Provisional Accreditation is the highest award possible for initial applicants such as the IASLC. IASLC was found to fulfill all accreditation requirements set forth by ACCME and is certified as a CME provider from July 2012 until July 31, 2014.

"We are very pleased to receive this accreditation from the ACCME," says Dr. Paul Bunn, Executive Director of the IASLC. "The ability to provide continuing education credit directly to our members increases the benefits of members. It also furthers our mission to provide education about lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies to IASLC members and the medical community at large."

Accreditation as a CME provider better positions IASLC to meet the evolving educational needs of members and other participants of its educational programs and supports the Association in its goal to expand relationships with global medical education providers and organizations.

ACCME accreditation seeks to assure the medical community and the public that the IASLC provides physicians with relevant, effective, practice-based continuing medical education that that supports health care quality improvement.

The ACCME employs a rigorous, multilevel process for evaluating institutions' continuing medical education programs according to the high accreditation standards adopted by all seven ACCME member organizations.
