Talk of treatment for anxiety and depression being only a ‘mouse click’ away

Associate Professor Nickolai Titov Director of from the Centre for Emotional Health will discuss recent advances in psychological treatment using internet-delivered therapy, at a free public lecture at Macquarie University on Friday October 12.

More than three million Australian adults experience clinical symptoms of anxiety and depression each year, yet less than 40 per cent seek treatment.

"Since an online setting eliminates the need to travel by offering access from the privacy and convenience of home, more and more people are turning to this kind of treatment," says Titov.

Associate Professor Titov has special interests in improving access to treatment for people with common emotional disorders. He leads a research team at the eCentreClinic and treated more than 1500 Australian adults via the Internet in 2012.

Recent data has indicated that many people with anxiety and depression experience difficulty-accessing treatment.

"With the prevalence of anxiety and depression in our communities, it's important there is discussion about the nature of Internet therapy and that we address the outstanding questions around this form of treatment," say Titov.
