Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal announces global expansion initiatives

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery® (PRS), official journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), announced today two publishing initiatives that will expand the reach of PRS to the international plastic surgery community: A publishing partnership between PRS and Revista Brasileira de Cirurgia Plastica (RBCP), the official journal of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery, to exchange content through a collaborative online presence for their members and journal readers; and the publication of a new peer-reviewed, international open access title, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery-Global Open, to be released in 2013 as a complementary title to PRS.

These publishing initiatives are an integral part of the ASPS mission to educate and support plastic surgeons globally with convenient, easy access to the highest quality research used to help inform their practice and improve patient care.

Rohrich, MD, Editor-in-Chief, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery journal. "Advancing PRS research into new markets is an important goal for the journal, and this partnership with Brazil, coupled with next year's launch of our open access title will deliver us an international scope and reach to advance research for the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery specialty."

Now, the two leading plastic surgery markets (US and Brazil) will exchange research to support practitioners in their professional development. As part of the partnership, a new RBCP website will be launched to members attending the 2012 ASPS Annual Meeting Oct. 26-30, in New Orleans, LA. The RBCP portal site will be published 'alongside' PRSJournal.com, allowing members and readers easy access to the content. ASPS members and PRS subscribers will have full access to the RBCP content in English online, and content will be searchable for users on both sites. In addition, both journals will mutually exchange select articles and reprints in print, web and app formats. The RBCP site provides Brazilian practitioners with:

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery - Global Open will be released in 2013 and focus on all areas of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, including basic science/experimental studies pertinent to the field and also clinical articles on such topics as: breast reconstruction, head and neck surgery, pediatric and craniofacial surgery, hand and microsurgery, wound healing, and cosmetic and aesthetic surgery. Clinical studies, experimental articles, ideas and innovations, and techniques and case reports are all welcome article types.

As a complimentary journal to the ASPS official journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open will provide an open-access venue for research studies sponsored by private and public funding agencies that require open access publication of study results. The journal's mission is to disseminate high quality, peer-reviewed research in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery to the widest possible global audience, through an online only, open access publishing platform.
