New mechanism for determining the size of plant cells elucidated

In joint research with Ohio State University and the Nara Institute of Science and Technology, PSC has elucidated the function of cell growth–terminating transcription factor GTL1 (GT2-LIKE 1), uncovering a mechanism that determines the size of plant cells.

These research findings were made possible through a research grant under the MEXT project Integrated Analysis of Strategies for Plant Survival and Growth in Response to Global Environmental Changes.

These results are expected to open new avenues for increased production of food and biomass crops.
