Cleveland Clinic researcher honored for contribution to science

Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, Cleveland: Cleveland Clinic researcher Jun Qin, Ph.D., has been named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). As part of the Molecular Cardiology Department in the Lerner Research Institute, Qin was elected as an AAAS Fellow for exemplary contributions to the field of cell signaling.

Qin's research uses state-of-the-art imaging techniques to derive atomic structures of proteins and protein complexes in order to promote the understanding of key cellular signaling processes in human health and disease, including stroke, kidney failure, and cancer. The atomic structures may also be helpful in designing specific small molecule drugs to treat these diseases.

Election as an AAAS Fellow is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers. This year 702 members have been awarded this honor by AAAS because of their scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications.
