FASEB SRC announces conference registration open: Protein Lipidation, Signaling, and Membranes Domains

February 4th, 2013

The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) announces the opening of registration for the Science Research Conference (SRC): Protein Lipidation, Signaling, and Membranes Domains.

The 2013 "Protein Lipidation, Signaling, and Membranes Domains" Conference provides an interactive forum for the presentation and critical analysis of recent advances concerning lipid-modified proteins and membrane microdomains, and their participation in diverse signaling cascades. Presentations at the meeting will highlight exciting progress in our understanding of how lipid-modified proteins and membrane microdomains promote normal physiological processes such as growth and differentiation, while also playing important roles in the pathogenesis of cancer, infectious diseases, neurologic disorders, and inherited syndromes. The meeting will bring together investigators from diverse fields who are interested in protein lipidation, membrane dynamics, and cell signaling. These three areas of research have distinct identities but are also strongly interrelated.

For example, the abilities of many proteins to undergo subcellular trafficking and participate in spatially segregated signaling cascades are dependent upon lipidation of these proteins and their dynamic shuttling in and out of membrane microdomains. Understanding how these interrelated processes occur will provide novel insights into the mechanisms responsible for pathogenesis in many diseases, and aid the development of new approaches to treat these diseases. By highlighting recent findings in these complementary areas of lipidation, membrane dynamics, and cell signaling, the meeting will promote new interactions and collaborations among researchers in diverse fields ranging from biophysics and structural biology to cell biology and clinical medicine.

FASEB SRC has announced a total of 34 SRCs in 2013. To register for an SRC, view preliminary programs, or find a listing of all our 2013 SRCs, please visit www.faseb.org/SRC.
