4th Asia-Pacific Osteoporosis Meeting to be led by region's leading bone experts

Clinicians as well as endocrinologists, orthopaedists and a wide number of specialists concerned with osteoporosis and related musculoskeletal diseases, are invited to attend Asia-Pacific's key clinical bone event in 2013. The Meeting, organized by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) in cooperation with the Hong Kong Osteoporosis Foundation and the Osteoporosis Society of Hong Kong, will take place on December 12-15, 2013 in Hong Kong.

More than in any other region of the world, the Asia-Pacific will be affected by the immense socio-economic burden caused by musculoskeletal diseases such as osteoporosis. Largely due to the ageing of the population and other lifestyle trends, more than 50% of the world's osteoporotic fractures are expected to occur in Asia by the year 2050. It is therefore essential that physicians are able to stay abreast of the latest management strategies and new clinical research in the field.

Now in its fourth year, the IOF Regionals Asia Pacific Osteoporosis Meeting is a highly respected annual educational and research forum for osteoporosis and related bone, muscle and joint diseases.

The Meeting is co-chaired by Professor Cyrus Cooper (UK) and Professor Tai Pang Ip (Hong Kong SAR). The Local Organising Committee is chaired by Professor Timothy Kwok (President, Hong Kong Osteoporosis Foundation) and Dr. Sue Lo (Past President, Osteoporosis Society of Hong Kong). Faculty will include key bone experts from throughout the region who will lead informative plenary lectures, Meet-the-Expert Sessions and Satellite Symposia.

The themes to be discussed at the Meeting include: epidemiology, bone healing and repair; secondary fracture prevention; post-menopausal women – women's health; muscle metabolism; ageing; horizon therapy; spine; a-typical femur fracture and optimal duration of BP therapy.
