Construction of new building for Accelerating Structures Lab begins

Construction of a new building for Accelerating Structures Lab has just got off the ground — The construction site (photo NCBJ).

Construction of a new building for NCBJ Accelerating Structures Lab has just got off the ground. Modern building to be built for over 7 million PLN will house designers' offices and various facilities to develop accelerator-related technologies.

NCBJ Accelerating Structures Lab team in Świerk will soon move to a modern building of 1400 sq. metres area. Specialized workshops for microwave equipment, vacuum technologies including soldering & tightness verification and the like will occupy one part of the building, while the other part will house labs in which R&D works on application of high-energy radiation in medicine and industry will be conducted. One of the Lab objectives will be to modernize accelerator technologies currently applied in medicine so that medical accelerators might be more safe for the patients and might offer more to the physicians.

Modern lab areas will facilitate efficient and safe (both for people and environment) implementation of new solutions devised by scientists working in charged particle physics, as well as will improve the conditions in which some research important for the national economy is conducted. Besides, they will help NCBJ teams to join consortia accomplishing international research projects.

The Zakład Handlowo Usługowy Zbigniew Deptuła company is responsible for constructing the new building for Accelerating Structures Lab. 7 million worth works are to be concluded by the third quarter of 2014. The construction is EU co-financed as a part of the Development of Ionizing Radiation-Based Technologies in NCBJ Świerk (aka "4Labs") project currently run in NCBJ within the 2007–2013 Regional Operational Programme for Mazovia Voivodship framework.
