The natural environment and health: Hidden dangers, unlimited opportunities
Cutting-edge research at the intersection of the Earth sciences and health will be showcased at the 5th International Conference on Medical Geology (MEDGEO 2013), which is being held along with the 2nd Symposium on Advances in Geospatial Technologies for Health, organized by the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Working Group on Health.
This collaboration will bring together interdisciplinary researchers and decision makers from the physical and medical sciences who are interested in solving health problems caused by natural materials and processes.
The joint conference will take place over five days from 25-29 August 2013 at the Hilton Crystal City Hotel, Arlington, Virginia, USA. Members of the press are invited to attend and cover the scientific presentations. The Geological Society of America's Geology and Health Division is a contributor to the event, which enjoys multi-level support and sponsors, including The University of Texas at Dallas, USGS, NASA, NSF, and the Institute for Integrative Health.
The Topical Session lineup includes:
- Arsenic and Other Toxic Oxyanions in the Environment
- Biogeochemical Biomarkers of Human Health
- Children's Health and the Environment
- Climate Change and Human Health
- Environmental Exposure to Asbestos and Other Natural Fibers
- Energy Related Health Issues
- Soils in Medical Geology
- Urban Medical Geology
- Health Risks Assessment of Hydraulic Fracking For Gas Recovery
