Motorola's WAP 650 with 4x4 Antenna Technology Delivers Better Coverage for WiMAX Operators
Building on its well-established lead as a premier supplier of WiMAX infrastructure and customer premises equipment to network operators around the world, the Home & Networks Mobility business of Motorola, Inc. today announced the WAP 650 series access point. The WAP 650 series, an upgrade from Motorola’s WAP 450 series, allows WiMAX operators to reach a broader customer base more efficiently with 50 percent higher coverage while lowering total cost of ownership up to 30 percent.
Motorola’s WAP 650 access point series features four transmit and four receive paths ("4X4") and is available in multiple frequency bands including 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz. The WAP 650’s four transmit paths, which deliver up to 20W of power, and its four receive paths, which operate via advanced receiver software implemented on the fully programmable FLeX modem, combine to provide a broader subscriber reach than its 2X2 WAP 450 predecessor.
Motorola’s unique Radio Resource Management (RRM) helps operators differentiate their services by enforcing end-to-end quality of service enabling operators to offer premium services and compelling end-user experiences. The WAP 650 series also offers operators an easy upgrade path from the WAP 450, as well as multi-carrier capabilities.
“With the WAP 650 series, Motorola is delivering 50 percent higher coverage per access point compared to previous solutions,” said Mark Hogenboom, WiMAX product management, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility. “The WAP 650 is a best in class solution to significantly lower capital and operating expenses for carriers while simultaneously providing consumers the best possible experiences.”
The WAP 650 series also allows for interoperability with certified devices from the current WiMAX ecosystem and a smooth fixed-to-mobile path that mitigates future mobile broadband demands. Additionally, the series supports software upgrades which facilitate remote management, reducing site visits and lowering operating expenses.
