October 26th, 2013

At the 2013 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference & Exhibition in Orlando Oct. 26, AAP President Thomas McInerny, MD, FAAP, will highlight the achievements made by the AAP in advocacy, education, and quality improvement over the past year.

Dr. McInerny's presidential address begins at 10:30 a.m. ET at the Orange County Convention Center. He will describe the Academy's work with pediatricians around the nation and world to improve children's health.

"Now is the time that we can keep the promise of affordable, accessible health care for every child in the United States," said Dr. McInerny. "Challenges lie ahead, but with the continued dedication and hard work of AAP members and staff, we will confront these challenges head on, ensuring that children receive the highest quality care in a medical home. By working together, we can help future generations create a healthy and productive society."

Dr. McInerny began his term as AAP president in October 2012, and will serve in that role until January 2014. He has been a primary care pediatrician in private practice at Panorama Pediatric Group in Rochester, N.Y. for 40 years, and is professor and associate chair for clinical affairs in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center and Golisano Children's Hospital. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Medical School and did his pediatric residency training at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Children's Hospital Boston.

Dr. McInerny is a member of the American Pediatric Society and the Academic Pediatric Association, and a certified physician executive and fellow of the American College of Physician Executives. He served on the AAP Task Force on Mental Health, which developed the AAP Mental Health Toolkit and was one of the authors of the EQIPP module on the medical home. Dr. McInerny has held many elected and appointed positions in the AAP, and is editor-in-chief of the AAP Textbook of Pediatric Care and Pediatric Care Online.
