Frontiers launches new open-access journal Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution

December 2nd, 2013

Swiss open-access publisher and research network, Frontiers, part of the Nature Publishing Group family, announces the launch of its journal Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution.

Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution is an exciting addition to the "Frontiers in" journal series and will cover research in evolutionary biology, ecosystem and systems ecology, macroecology, phylogenetics, and conservation. The journal's logo, the duck-billed platypus, symbolizes its scope.

"Ecology is a challenging and exciting science", said Prof. Franco Biondi, Specialty Chief Editor of Paleoecology for Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution and professor of Geography at the University of Nevada. "When combined with the study of the past, as in Paleocology, it becomes even more interdisciplinary and discovery-driven".

With its world-class editorial board, interdisciplinary scope, Open Access, article-level metrics, fast publication, and rigorous, collaborative and transparent peer review, the new journal is the optimal choice for researchers working in ecology and evolution.

The current specialty sections within Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution are the following and more will be added soon:

  • Agroecology and Land Use Systems (Specialty Chief Editor: Ramachandran P.K. Nair)
  • Behavioral and Evolutionary Ecology (Specialty Chief Editors: Daiqin Li & Jordi Figuerola)
  • Chemical Ecology (Specialty Chief Editor: Peter Witzgall)
  • Evolutionary and Genomic Microbiology (Specialty Chief Editor: John R. Battista)
  • Evolutionary and Population Genetics (Specialty Chief Editor: Samuel A. Cushman)
  • Paleoecology (Specialty Chief Editor: Franco Biondi)
  • Paleontology (Specialty Chief Editor: Robert Reisz)
  • Phylogenetics, Phylogenomics, and Systematics (Specialty Chief Editor: Rodney L. Honeycutt)
  • Population Dynamics (Specialty Chief Editor: Daniel Oro)

The following sections will be accepting submissions in the near future, and additional sections will be incorporated to encompass the entire scope of the field:

  1. Coevolution (Specialty Chief Editor: Allen Herre)
  2. Conservation and Restoration (Specialty Chief Editor: Marc Girondot)
  3. Interdisciplinary Climate Studies (Specialty Chief Editor: Martin Beniston)

Frontiers is the largest and fastest-growing open-access publisher and the first to combine open access publishing with research networking. Its articles are published immediately online under a Creative Commons Attribution license (CC-BY), which allows users to share, copy and distribute a work, provided they credit the original authors and their work.
