Elsevier announces the launch of open access journal: Sustainable Materials and Technologies

Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and solutions, is pleased to announce the launch of open access journal: Sustainable Materials and Technologies (SM&T). The journal is the first open access journal in Elsevier's portfolio of Condensed Matter Physics journals.

Sustainable Materials and Technologies aims to publish original research articles and reviews in applied or fundamental science of nano-, micro-, meso-, and macro-scale aspects of materials and technologies for sustainable development. Special attention is given to contributions that reduce the knowledge gap between materials and system designs.

SM&T acknowledges the interdisciplinary nature of scientific research on sustainable development and is offering researchers a new venue for rapid and open access publication of their work," said Laura Espinal, Ph.D. of US-based National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), one of the journal's Editors.

Prof. Igor Meglinski, Head of Bio-Photonics & Biomedical Imaging from the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand, also Editor for SM&T, added, "Making SM&T an open access journal was a conscious decision. This way, published research will be available to all researchers anytime and from any location. For scholars, this is a huge advantage."

Karine van Wetering, Publisher at Elsevier, said, "The field of Sustainable Materials and Technologies forms a new interdisciplinary community in science. SM&T responds to the publication needs of this community and provides novel platform, combining and bringing together the work of physicists, mathematicians, chemists, material scientists, engineers and other technical experts. SM&T will publish its first 2 volumes in 2014. Peer reviewed articles will be available online on ScienceDirect.
