World Congress on Agroforestry 2014

The World Congress on Agroforestry 2014 will be one of the major events of the year in the field of trees, forests, agriculture and development. The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, will open the World Congress on Agroforestry 2014 on 10 February in New Delhi, indicating the value that India places on trees on farms and in the landscape as a way to bolster future food security and livelihoods.

The World Agroforestry Centre and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, together with the Indian Society of Agroforestry and Global Initiatives, are sponsoring the Congress in Delhi, India, 10-14 February 2014. The Congress, entitled 'Trees for Life: Accelerating the Impacts of Agroforestry', will draw up to 1000 participants from the private, research and development sectors.

Registration for the World Congress on Agroforestry 2014 (WCA2014) is still open through the website here. The agenda will feature Keynote Addresses, Plenary Discussions and Breakout Sessions, structured around the business, development and science of agroforestry.

The first day will be devoted to agroforestry systems, income and environmental benefits in South Asia. Subsequent days will deal with the themes of: 1. Business in the context of science and development, 2. Sustaining development through agroforestry, breakthroughs and innovations, and 3. The integration of science, business and development.

Offering a unique opportunity for the business and research communities to interact, the Congress will be built around a structure dealing with science and innovation; food and nutrition; environmental protection; enterprise; knowledge and policy environment, and climate change. It will produce a global roadmap for agroforestry in the context of world development and create a tangible legacy in terms of recognition, partnership, investment and impact.
