Journalists registering for the American Chemical Society's (ACS') 247th National Meeting & Exposition this winter will have a wealth of material to choose from with more than 10,000 presentations planned on science topics from astronomy to zoology. The meeting, one of the largest scientific conferences of the year, will be held March 16-20, in Dallas.

The theme of the meeting is "Chemistry and Materials for Energy," but numerous sessions also will focus on the environment in general, as well as medicine and food and nutrition. Among the symposia planned are:

  • Biofuels and Sustainable Energy
  • Sweet Side of Chemistry, Candy: Information and Recipes for National Chemistry Week 2014
  • Cyber Security: What You Can Do To Protect Your Business
  • The Road Less Traveled is Crowded: Therapies for Orphan Diseases Examined from Bench To Bedside
  • Hydraulic Fracturing and its Impact on our Energy Security and the Environment
  • Bioactives in Natural Sweeteners

The ACS Office of Public Affairs will operate a press center in the Dallas Convention Center. It will include a press conference room and a news media workroom fully staffed to assist in arranging interviews. The press center will have wireless Internet access, telephones, computers, a photocopier and refreshments.

Embargoed copies of press releases, non-technical summaries of newsworthy presentations and a press conference schedule will be available in March. Reporters planning to cover the meeting from their home bases will have access to the press conferences over the Internet through Ustream.
