Truven Health and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health launch institute

Today Truven Health Analytics and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) announced their collaboration in the establishment of the Institute for Health and Productivity Studies (IHPS) at the Johns Hopkins University. The goal of the collaboration is to connect academic research in the field of Health and Productivity Management with the business community and health policymakers. IHPS, formerly housed at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health, will maintain its current leadership by Director Ron Goetzel, PhD, who has also served as Vice President of Consulting and Applied Research at Truven Health Analytics since 1995. At JHSPH, the Institute will have expanded opportunities to engage with key national and international workplace programs and organizations towards achieving its goals.

"With the support of Truven Health Analytics, I believe the Institute for Health and Productivity Studies will have a significant impact on how we think about personal health habits, which will drive real world policy solutions and significant cost savings."

At JHSPH, IHPS researchers will continue to conduct empirical research to better understand the relationship between employee health and well-being and work-related productivity. In addition to his position at Truven Health Analytics, Goetzel will assume the role of Senior Scientist at JHSPH.

"Our faculty and students have a long-standing interest in the field of workplace health promotion, and the addition of Dr. Goetzel and his team to HBS, along with our collaboration with Truven Health Analytics, will allow for significant, meaningful advances in this exciting area."

Goetzel served as Director of the Emory University Institute for Health and Productivity Studies from 2008-2014. Prior to joining Truven Health Analytics, Goetzel was vice president of assessment, data analysis and evaluation services at Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems. Goetzel earned a PhD in organizational and administrative studies and an MA in applied social psychology from New York University.
