Nancy Chiaravalloti, PhD, of Kessler Foundation was named the 63rd Mendel Lecturer by Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, New Jersey. Dr. Chiaravalloti spoke on April 24, 2014 at the University's Pope Lecture Hall on the topic of "Treating Cognitive Deficits Following Neurological Illness and Injury."

"It is an honor to be a part of the long legacy of the Mendel lecture series at Saint Peter's University," said Dr. Chiaravalloti. "The field of rehabilitation research is a rewarding one. The work we do results in better ways to treat people with disabilities caused by injuries and disease." Dr. Chiaravalloti, a neuropsychologist, is director of Neuropsychology, Neuroscience and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Research at the Foundation, project director of the federally funded Northern NJ TBI System, and associate professor of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School. She is a widely published expert in the field of cognitive rehabilitation research in multiple sclerosis and TBI.

The Mendel Biology Lecture is the longest running annual lectureship in the history of Saint Peter's University. The Mendel Lecture provides a forum for authorities in biology and related fields to speak on important issues in their area of expertise. The Mendel Lecture is supported by the Biology Dept, the Department of Applied Science, and the student-run Mendel Biology Society. The annual event is open to the college community and the general public.

Scientists at Kessler Foundation conduct cognitive research to improve cognition in individuals with multiple sclerosis, TBI , stroke and dementia. Funding is provided by grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Disability Rehabilitation Research, National MS Society, NJ Commission of Brain Injury Research, Consortium of MS Centers, Patterson Trust, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Children's Specialized Hospital Foundation, Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, Craig H. Neilsen Foundation, Biogen Idec and Kessler Foundation.
