DESCRIPTION: The double-burden of under- and overnutrition has grave effects on human health globally. According to the World Health Organization (2013), obesity and diabetes rates have almost doubled since 1980 worldwide and more than 40 million children under 5 were overweight in 2011. This increase suggests that maternal nutrition, paternal contributions, and the intrauterine environment play a role in diabesity. This conference, at the New York Academy of Sciences on September 26th, will examine the roles of pre-conception and generational effects of nutrition; intrauterine environment and 'programming'; and re-setting the program after birth. Global experts from the fields of maternal nutrition, obesity, the microbiome, metabolic disorders, and fetal development will discuss factors affecting obesity rates. @NYASEvents #EarlyObesity
