The interpretation of healthy eating and a curriculum to prevent childhood obesity

The Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior (JNEB) announces the 2014 Best Article and Best Great Educational Material (GEM) awards, which were presented at the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB) annual conference, "Nutrition Education Impact: Local to Global," in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, June 28 – July 1, 2014. These annual awards recognize the authors of the best article and best GEM published each year in JNEB, as judged by members of the JNEB Journal Committee and Board of Editors. All authors will receive a plaque and the lead authors will receive a monetary award.

The Best Article Award was presented to authors Amy Storfer-Isser, PhD, and Dara Musher-Eizenman, PhD, for their article, "Measuring Parent Time Scarcity and Fatigue as Barriers to Meal Planning and Preparation: Quantitative Scale Development," published in the March 2013 issue of JNEB. The best article was selected from 102 published articles, briefs, and reports. Dr. Storfer-Isser presented the results of the Best Article following the conference opening keynote on Sunday, June 29.

The Best GEM award was presented to Geoff D. C. Ball, PhD, RD; Biagina-Carla Farnesi, MS; Amanda S. Newton, PhD, RN; Nicholas L. Holt, PhD; Josie Geller, PhD; Arya M. Sharma, PhD, MD; Steven T. Johnson, PhD; Carrie L. Matteson, PhD; and Diane T. Finegood, PhD, for "Join the Conversation! The Development and Preliminary Application of Conversation Cards in Pediatric Weight Management," published in the September 2013 issue of JNEB. GEMs are resources developed to educate on certain topics or distribute programs to help in the nutrition education field. The best GEM was selected from 14 published GEMs.
