AIAA to present awards at 28th Digital Avionics Systems Conference

Reston, Va. - The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) will recognize key contributions to digital avionics and information systems at a noon awards luncheon on Thursday, October 28 as part of the 28th Digital Avionics Systems Conference, being held October 25󈞉 at the Florida Hotel & Conference Center, Orlando, Fla.

John Moody, Doyle Peed, Robert Strain and Warren Wilson of The MITRE Corporation, McLean, Va., will receive the 2009 AIAA Dr. John C. Ruth Digital Avionics Award. They are being honored for their invention, prototyping, initial implementation, standardization, and promotion of the Universal Access Transceiver (UAT) and the UAT Beacon Radio (UBR). The Dr. John C. Ruth Digital Avionics Award honors outstanding achievement in technical management and/or implementation of digital avionics in space or aeronautical systems, including systems analysis, design, development or application. It is named in honor of Dr. John C. Ruth, the fourth chairman of the Digital Avionics Conference.

Charles Jorgenson of the NASA Ames Research Center, Moffet Field, Calif., will receive the 2009 AIAA Information Systems Award. Jorgenson is being honored for his significant research and innovative contributions in neural network systems and applications. The AIAA Information Systems Award, presented biennially, honors technical and/or management contributions in space and aeronautics computer and sensing aspects of information technology and science.
