Fox Chase earns accreditation from the American College of Radiology

February 23rd, 2015

Fox Chase Cancer Center's Radiation Oncology Department, an international leader known for offering the latest advancements in radiation treatment, has earned accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR) for another three years at both its main campus in Northeast Philadelphia and Buckingham facility.

The ACR is the nation's oldest and most widely accepted radiation oncology accrediting body -with over 600 accredited sites, and 27 years of accreditation experience. Its seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety for the delivery of radiation therapy.

"The ACR accreditation is a high honor in the oncology world, and we have much to be proud of as it demonstrates that Fox Chase meets, and often exceeds, nationally accepted standards of care," says Richard I. Fisher, President and CEO of Fox Chase Cancer Center. "This reaffirmation of confidence is testimony to the compassionate, skillful services - underpinned by high-level science and deep empathy - that we provide our patients."

In its findings, the ACR acknowledged the radiation physics team at Fox Chase as having "long been an asset to the medical physics community for publishing and introducing new technology and techniques," noting that this was evident in the survey.

The accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Radiation Oncology Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.
