New York City climate change report calls for more research and planning efforts

A new report provides projections of New York City's climate to the end of the century, noting that higher temperatures, heavy downpours, sea level rise, and intensified coastal flooding are the major climate hazards expected for the region.

The 2015 report by the New York City Panel on Climate Change (NPCC) offers recommendations on the research needed to help officials develop adaptive strategies as well as the efforts that are required to limit the rate and magnitude of future climate change.

"While specific to New York City and its metropolitan region, the approaches developed by the NPCC can contribute to efforts to enhance resiliency as they are undertaken across governmental scales as well as in other locations," stated the authors of the report, which is published in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences.
