Springer to partner with Society of Wetland Scientists

November 5th, 2009

Starting in January 2010, Springer will publish Wetlands, the official journal of the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS). Together with the journals Wetlands Ecology and Management and Estuaries and Coasts, Springer now leads the field in journals dedicated to wetlands research.

Wetlands is an international journal concerned with all aspects of wetland biology, ecology, hydrology, water chemistry and soil and sediment characteristics as well as issues relating to management, policy and regulation. Since wetland research often involves an interdisciplinary approach, the journal publishes papers reporting research results from all relevant disciplines. Original papers, reviews and short communications are published bimonthly under the direction of editor-in-chief Dr. Darold P. Batzer of the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, USA.

"It is our hope that by partnering with Springer to publish Wetlands, the Society of Wetland Scientists can better promote wetland science to a growing international audience," said Dr. Batzer.

Dr. Catherine Cotton, Senior Editor in Ecology at Springer, said, "Springer has had a long-term interest in wetlands and coastal sciences and is building up a strong portfolio in this field, which, subsequent to Hurricane Katrina and other recent events, is becoming an increasingly socially and economically significant area. We look forward to supporting the Society of Wetland Scientists in realizing its overall goals."

"Over the past two decades, wetland science has played an important role in environmental decision-making at local, national and, increasingly, international levels," said Christopher Craft, who signed the agreement with Springer during his term as president of SWS. "The Society of Wetland Scientists provides a critical service in this process. The arrangement with Springer will facilitate our capacity to grow and prosper as we continue to serve as a key agent of new ideas and a foundation for maturation of the field. We look forward to working with Springer to expand visibility of Wetlands and disseminate science and policy to the broader international community."
