Light: designed by nature, transformed by science

On June 19th, the MIT Portugal Program will be holding its Annual Conference at the Rectorate of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Campolide.

Light: Designed by Nature, Transformed by Science—By the occasion of the International Year of Light—aims to celebrate almost 10 years of MIT Portugal Program and also lighting the path for the future.

We will have the pleasure to count with interventions from our alumni, nowadays performing their activities in a diverse array of topics and locations, researchers from prestigious national institutions as well as investigators from MIT, Harvard and Franhoufer, and industrial affiliates from prestigious companies in Portugal. Thus, the MIT Portugal aims to demonstrate the fruitful collaborative approach to research, education and innovation that has been promoting within the national scientific and technological fabric. So far 313 students have graduated through the program, more than 2711 applied to the advanced training educational programs, 270 professors from Portuguese institutions and 70 MIT professors and more than 50 companies have collaborate with the MIT Portugal Program, and 12 startups were created by associated faculty and students. The MIT Portugal has also been promoted the accelerator program Building Global Innovators companies (BGI) with ISCTE-IUL and the several MIT institutions. Now in its sixth year, the projects supported by the BGI, considered one of the best European accelerators, have already secured more than 32 million euros in investment and gave origin to over 300 jobs.
