Science's policy forum focuses on water in lead up to World Water Week in Stockholm

August 5th, 2015

Science has published a series of six Policy Forum essays on water to coincide with leading annual water conference, World Water Week. Conference organizer, Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), through its co-chaired Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA), contributed to the series, specifically, "Building Water Security Through Green Infrastructure," published today.

"These essays frame some of most important issues of our time, and like World Water Week itself, they shed light on the complexity and interconnectivity of water and development issues," John Matthews said.

The 3-part series contrast perspectives on water governance (local vs global), monitoring water (satellite vs on the ground), and green infrastructure (feasibility for emerging economies). An essay advocating for the wider deployment of green infrastructure was co-authored by John Matthews and others from AGWA. A number of the series' authors will attend World Water Week.

AGWA's knowledge base and expertise helped to link the health and integrity of ecosystems with their ability to grow economies and supply energy, clean water, and food security.

This year is the jubilee year of World Water Week. The theme is 'Water for Development'. The Week brings together the world's leading researchers, decision-makers, and thought leaders to engage in a global conversation towards the same goal: to ensure water is shared and allocated sustainably, equitably and efficiently - meeting everyone's basic needs.

To register (including press), visit http://www.worldwaterweek.org. Videos and podcasts from the conference will be available at http://www.siwi.org/mediahub.
