Springer signs co-publishing agreement with the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences

December 7th, 2009

Springer and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences will collaborate to publish AMBIO, A Journal of the Human Environment. AMBIO was founded in 1972, the year of the first major United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. The journal addresses the scientific, social, economic and cultural factors that influence the conditions of the human environment. The first issue at Springer will be published in February 2010.

AMBIO serves the important function of putting into perspective significant developments in environmental research, policy and related activities. It publishes recent work in the interrelated fields of ecology, environmental economics, environmental management, technology and natural sciences. Widely recognized as an important international forum for debate, AMBIO publishes papers that are geared not only to specialists, but also to students, politicians, professional planners and interested laypersons. Editor-in-chief Dr. Elisabeth Kessler of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is supported by a distinguished international editorial board and a team of competent associate editors.

A major focus of global concern is not only that the earth's natural resources are under increasing pressure, but also that climate change poses a threat to the whole human environment. AMBIO's goal is to provide its many readers with a deeper understanding of these concerns and to introduce the research results which try to pinpoint means by which they can be mitigated.

Tamara Welschot, Senior Editor of Environmental Sciences at Springer, said, "I am very proud and honored to work with the Academy and the editor-in-chief Dr. Kessler on further promoting AMBIO. Environmental science is extremely important in today's world. Springer will endeavor to increase the international awareness and usage of AMBIO through our online platform SpringerLink, bringing the articles faster to the readers via OnlineFirst, and dedicated marketing campaigns."

Published eight times a year, AMBIO is indexed in more than 40 international databases. At Springer, it will be available in print and electronically on www.springerlink.com. AMBIO will feature Online First™, Cross Reference Linking, and Alert services. In addition, all authors, via the Springer Open Choice™ program, have the option of publishing their articles using the open access publishing model.
