AIUM gears up for 2010 Annual Convention in San Diego, California

December 8th, 2009

Registration is open for the 2010 AIUM Annual Convention and Preconvention Program, the only medical imaging conference in the United States dedicated to all disciplines of medical ultrasound, to be held March 24-27, 2010, in San Diego, California. The 2010 Annual Convention focuses on emerging applications and unique opportunities for collaboration between physicians, sonographers, scientists, and manufacturers as ultrasound continues to advance and expand into new arenas.

With a sold-out exhibit hall and more than 300 scientific abstracts submitted, the AIUM anticipates a well-attended event incorporating demonstrations of the most recent ultrasound technology. The convention curriculum consists of courses and sessions customized to reflect developing topics in each branch of medical ultrasound, as represented by the AIUM's 15 Communities of Practice. Information will be presented in a variety of formats, including categorical courses, hands-on scanning instruction, Meet-the-Professor sessions, and scientific oral and poster sessions.

"From obstetrics and gynecology to emergency medicine, musculoskeletal imaging, neurosonology, instrumentation, and beyond, we are proud of the convention's unique cross-pollination among ultrasound specialties," said AIUM Annual Convention Committee Chair Jacques Abramowicz, MD. "I always leave the meeting with renewed enthusiasm and knowledge I can apply to my practice immediately."

For the first time, the AIUM Annual Convention will host courses and Community of Practice meetings for contrast-enhanced ultrasound and therapeutic ultrasound, two evolving areas of medical ultrasound in the United States.

The 2010 AIUM Preconvention Program, to be held on March 24, 2010, will precede the Annual Convention with courses that zero in on contemporary issues and ultrasound fundamentals to give attendees a convenient way of earning up to 7 additional CME credits in San Diego. The 2010 AIUM Annual Convention and Preconvention Program offers medical ultrasound professionals more than 30 CME credits in total.

The AIUM will integrate social networking tools into the 2010 convention experience to extend the reach of information and activity. Convention-related messages, pictures, and videos will be posted on Twitter (AIUM_Ultrasound) using hashtag #AIUM10 and on the AIUM's Facebook page. In addition, attendees are encouraged to connect with one another before, during, and after the meeting at aiumcommunities.org, the AIUM's professional networking site, which will also host noteworthy convention content.
