Development of the world's first standard LED covering the full visible light

AIST has developed standard LED with sufficient light intensity over almost all wavelengths of visible light, as standard light source suitable for accurate measurement of LED lighting.
Solid state lighting (SSL) such as LED lighting and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) lighting have an infinite variety of color and light intensity because their spectrums are rich in variety. In order to evaluate the performance of such lighting accurately, it is necessary to prepare standard light sources with determined accurate characteristics, and to measure the light intensity in each wavelength accurately while comparing the lighting with the standard light sources.
Having developed standard LED which have sufficient light intensity in all wavelengths of visible light (380 nm – 780 nm) corresponding to the characteristic of emitting light only to a front direction specific to SSL, it is expected that this will contribute to accelerating product development and improving performance.
