TRB'S 89TH ANNUAL MEETING TO HIGHLIGHT INVESTING IN U.S. TRANSPORTATION FUTURE

WASHINGTON -- The 89th annual meeting of the National Research Council's Transportation Research Board will host more than 3,000 transportation-related presentations in nearly 600 sessions and workshops. Some 10,000 people -- policymakers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, journalists, and representatives of government, industry, and academia -- attend the meeting, and all modes of transportation will be represented. This year's spotlight theme is "Investing in Our Transportation Future -- Bold Ideas to Meet Big Challenges." The meeting will take place in Washington, D.C., from Jan. 10-14.

The meeting will be held in three hotels: the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, 2660 Woodley Road, N.W.; the Omni Shoreham Hotel, 2500 Calvert St., N.W.; and the Hilton Washington Hotel, 1919 Connecticut Ave., N.W.

A newsroom, located in the Park Tower Suite 8205 at the Marriott, will open Jan. 10-12, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; on Jan. 13, from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and on Jan. 14, from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Members of the news media may register at the Marriott or Hilton hotel registration desks during the meeting. The media must be registered to use the newsroom and attend annual meeting events.

GLOBAL ROAD SAFETY
This workshop provides an update on developments in global road safety -- especially those that target improved road safety outcomes in low- and middle-income countries.

MEGA-REGIONS: STRATEGIC THINKING ABOUT KEY TRANSPORTATION ISSUES
This workshop explores issues related to mega-regions, such as how policies, institutions, funding programs, and technical tools might be adapted to develop the transportation systems required by mega-regions.

IMPLEMENTING SELF-EXPLAINING, SELF-ENFORCING ROADS IN THE U.S.
This workshop will focus on identifying ways that the concepts of self-explaining and self-enforcing roads could be implemented in the United States, and will explore potential steps to promote these concepts based on European experience.
