ACS Webinar features tips for using a chemistry degree in finding career opportunities

News media and others interested in the chemical sciences are invited to join the next in a series of American Chemical Society (ACS) Webinars, Your Career Matters! featuring speakers that address a variety of pertinent career topics impacting science and engineering professionals.

Scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 14, 2 - 3 p.m. Eastern Time, the free webinar will feature ACS President Joseph S. Francisco, Ph.D., speaking on "Using Your Chemistry Education to Unlock Career Opportunities in the New Decade - A Story From the 2010 ACS President."

The ACS Webinar Series connects you with subject experts and global thought leaders in chemical sciences, management, and business to addresses current topics of interest to scientific and engineering professionals. Each webinar includes a 30-minute discussion followed by a Q & A session.

News media and scientists can tune into the conference without charge, but must register in advance.

Francisco's topics will include how:

  • A chemistry degree can open the door to surprising career opportunities
  • To find good mentors and develop passion for your career
  • To leverage ACS to enhance your skills and develop your network

Francisco is the William E. Moore Distinguished Professor of Earth and Atmospheric Science and Chemistry at Purdue University. He has an undergraduate degree in chemistry is from the University of Texas at Austin and earned a Ph.D. in chemical physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He was a research fellow at Cambridge University in England and a Provost Postdoctoral Fellow at MIT. Francisco's served as an assistant professor at Wayne State University and a visiting associate in planetary science at California Institute of Technology. A former President of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers, Francisco just began a one-year term as ACS President.
