AADR awards the 2010 AADR William B. Clark Fellowship to Isabel Gay

The American Association for Dental Research (AADR) has announced Isabel Gay as the recipient of the 2010 AADR William B. Clark Fellowship in Clinical Research. This award will be announced at the 39th AADR Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Washington, DC, March 3, 2010.

Gay is an assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics, University of Texas, Health Science at Houston. Her research interests are the host genetic factors underlying diabetes and periodontal diseases in Mexican-Americans. The Clark Fellowship will allow Dr. Gay to receive additional training in research methodologies related to state-of-the-art molecular probe design, genetic testing, and DNA sequencing and analysis at the University of Alabama, Birmingham in Dr. Mary MacDougall's lab.

The training at UAB will allow Dr. Gay to add a molecular analysis of host genetics to her overall research project: "The effect of non-surgical periodontal therapy on glycemic control and bacterial levels in a Mexican-American population with type 2 diabetes."

The AADR William B. Clark Fellowship was established in memory of William B. Clark and is supported by P&G Professional Oral Health, Crest Oral-B. The award recognizes investigators carrying out clinical research in periodontology.
