Springer editorial board member receives Humboldt Research Award

Dr. Gottfried Otting, a professor at the Australian National University, Research School of Chemistry, has been elected the recipient of a Humboldt Research Award. Otting is on the editorial board of Springer's Journal of Biomolecular NMR.

The Humboldt Research Award is granted in recognition of a researcher's entire achievements whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline. The awardee is invited to carry out research projects of his or her own choice in cooperation with specialist colleagues in Germany, thereby promoting international scientific cooperation.

Professor Otting is internationally recognized for his outstanding research in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy of biological macromolecules. He has made numerous fundamental contributions in using NMR as a tool for studying the three-dimensional structure and dynamics of proteins in solution. He is well-known for the development of experiments for characterizing the hydration shell of proteins and nucleic acids. In recent years, he has developed paramagnetic probes, which are now widely used as efficient tools for studying the structures and dynamics of biological macromolecules.
