Dr Eleanor Stride from UCL Mechanical Engineering won the 2009 Philip Leverhulme Prize in recognition of her work on the subject.

In this video marking National Science and Engineering Week, Dr Stride describes how they might be used to transform medical imaging and targeted drug delivery.

UCL's Grant Museum of Zoology is opening its doors between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 20 March as part of National Science and Engineering Week 2010.

The museum has organised a 'fossil forage' for visitors to sieve through fossil-rich sediment from a time when London was patrolled by sharks and rays.

They will also be able to explore the amazing fossils from prehistoric creatures with interactive specimen-based games and meet real-life palaeontologists.
