April 16 symposium on innovation and the federal SBIR program

April 12th, 2010

The economic benefits that flow from innovation depend on translating the results of research into new products and services. On April 16 the National Research Council will hold a symposium to explore this process and the role of the federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program -- which distributes grants to stimulate innovation at small businesses -- in supporting it. Speakers will include representatives of agencies that administer SBIR, including the U.S. Department of Energy, Department of Defense, and the National Science Foundation.

The symposium will run from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 16, in the Lecture Room of the National Academy of Sciences building, 2100 C St., N.W., Washington, D.C. Reporters who wish to attend should contact the National Research Council's Office of News and Public Information at tel. 202-334-2138 or e-mail news@nas.edu.
