Understanding personalized lung cancer therapy: How the anatomical extent of disease and staging, histology and molecular testing contribute to the equation
This session is crafted specifically for journalists. The presentations will highlight new insights that are helping doctors tailor lung cancer treatment to individual patients.
The IASLC and ESMO panel will feature the world's leading lung cancer experts, discussing the four most important focuses of personalized therapy in lung cancer:
Moderators:
Dr. Peter Goldstraw, UK; Dr. Rafael Rosell, Spain
Experts and Topics:
Dr. Peter Goldstraw: Consultant Thoracic Surgeon, Royal Brompton Hospital; Professor of Thoracic Surgery, Imperial College, London, UK; Past-Chair, IASLC Staging Project. He will give an overview of how lung cancer staging classification has changed, and clinical implications.
Dr. Paul Van Houtte: Head of the Department of Radiotherapy for the Institut Jules Bordet will discuss newer aspects of treatment planning to accurately target the anatomical extent of the disease. He will present newer aspects of treatment planning to accurately target the anatomical extent of the disease.
Dr. Rolf Stahel: Senior Staff Physician at the Clinic and Policlinic of Oncology, University Hospital of Zürich and Titular Professor of Medicine at the University of Zürich, Switzerland, will explain the impact of histology on customizing systemic therapy of lung cancer
Dr. Fortunato Ciardiello: Associate Professor of Medical Oncology and head of the Laboratory of Experimental Molecular Therapeutics at the Cattedra di Oncologia Medica of the Seconda Università di Napoli, Neaples, Italy; Chair of the ESMO Translational Research Working Group and member of the ESMO Educational Steering Committee. He will overview targeted therapy and perspectives of lung cancer molecular classification.
Journalists will be able to attend the press conferences and to schedule one-on-one interviews with presenters of the studies and key experts, both in person and remotely through toll-free dial-in.
The educational seminar will be conducted at the ELCC and via Webcast.
