2010 Student Conference on Conservation Science

In November 2010, the American Museum of Natural History's Center for Biodiversity and Conservation will host SCCS-NY, the Student Conference on Conservation Science in New York City.

SCCS-NY is a sister conference to the highly successful SCCS-Cambridge, begun in 2000 by the University of Cambridge, and the newly developed SCCS-Bangalore.

SCCS-NY is a unique opportunity for those beginning their careers to present their work before established leaders in science, policy, and management. In addition to formal presentations, there will be numerous opportunities to interact with senior-level conservation professionals at workshops, informal gatherings, and networking events. Applications are due by May 10, 2010.

Designed for graduate students, recent post-doctoral fellows, and early-career researchers, the conference specifically targets those pursuing or considering a profession in conservation science. Participants will interact with established leaders in science, policy, and management during three days of presentations, posters, workshops, and networking opportunities. Highlights at this conference will include student talks and posters, plenary presentations by established conservation practitioners, personalized feedback from mentoring taskforce, multi-disciplinary workshops led by experts in their field, working lunches hosted by leading conservation organizations, prizes for best work, special evening programming, and a career fair with NGOs, governmental agencies, and universities.

Applicants should have completed, or be conducting a research project and will be selected based on the quality of their work as well as its relevance to conservation.

A limited number of travel awards may be offered. Please indicate your interest in applying for funds on the application form.
