Marine Protected Areas Federal Advisory Committee to meet in Charleston, S.C.
The Marine Protected Areas Federal Advisory Committee will meet April 20-22, 2010, at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, S.C. The committee advises the Department of Commerce and the Department of the Interior on issues related to the national system of MPAs.
The meeting will focus on the committee's new charge, which includes integrating the national MPA system with the Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning Initiative, and developing recommendations for supporting coastal community resilience through the national system. The Committee will also receive an update on the interagency Ocean Policy Task Force and hear from two panels of MPA experts and stakeholders on South Atlantic regional issues and the value and diversity of cultural heritage resources.
