Workshop to explore cooperative venture in optical wireless
Riverside are exploring the potential for a National Science Foundation-sponsored Industry/University Cooperative Research Center in Optical Wireless Applications.
The Optical Wireless Applications Workshop scheduled for June 8 to 10, at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel, University Park, Pa., is a planning meeting to providing interdisciplinary leadership for a new generation of environmentally friendly, extremely wideband optical wireless technology applications. These applications would use solid-state devices for communications, networking, imaging and remote sensing applications. Penn State is the lead institution in this NSF-sponsored effort.
Speakers from all areas of industry will present posters and papers covering such topics as line of site communications, indoor infrared links, performance limits and LED lighting. Presenters will also discuss applications in biomedicine, underwater and aviation.
The workshop will also include discussions focusing on creating an industry - academic center for further study in this area, including evaluations by industry and NSF.
