International Osteoporosis Foundation honors longtime associate
Professor José Zanchetta, a member of the IOF Board and long standing leader of the IOF Latin American Programme, has been named the recipient of the prestigious Pierre Delmas Award. The award is granted by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) in memory of Pierre D. Delmas, IOF's renowned founding president who was instrumental in the growth of the Foundation and osteoporosis advocacy worldwide.
The award was presented today at the IOF WCO-ECCEO10, the world's largest international congress on osteoporosis, currently being held in Florence, Italy.
IOF President John Kanis presided at the presentation ceremony, stating, "This award is presented to an individual who has made a significant and unstinting contribution to the advancement of the work of the International Osteoporosis Foundation. As a longtime board member José Zanchetta has shown great commitment to IOF and has played a significant role in the development, implementation and expansion of IOF programmes in the Latin American region. With great dedication and by virtue of his excellent collaboration with other organizations in the region, he has helped to raise awareness of osteoporosis as a serious health care issue in Latin America."
Prof. Zanchetta is a researcher and specialist in osteology and nephrology, and is CEO and Principle Investigator at the Instituto de Investigaciones Metabolicas (IDIM) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has published widely in the bone arena and is the recipient of numerous awards.
