Traffic safety, alcohol and drugs

In August 2010, researchers and experts on drugs, alcohol and medicines will take part in the T2010 conference, the tri-annual meeting of the International Council on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety (ICADTS). This year's meeting is being hosted by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

A wide range of traffic safety themes will be discussed, including -

  • Drugs and traffic safety
  • Biomarkers for alcohol, narcotics and drugs
  • Analysis methods
  • Advances in technology to improve car safety
  • Rehabilitation programs for intoxicated drivers

More than 200 abstracts have been received.

A specific workshop on alcohol, drugs and traffic accidents in developing countries will be organised with invited representatives from some of the countries.

Another workshop for young scientists will also be included in the program.

Results from a major European study - Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Alcohol and Medicines (DRUID) will be presented at the meeting.

The aim of ICADTS is to combat driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs and medicines.
