The SoMin.ai platform co-founded by Prof. Aleksandr Farseev (Machine Learning Lab, ITMO University) has partnered OpenAI—the widely-known innovative AI Enterprise founded by Elon Musk. Prof. Farseev's team got access to the GPT-3 neural network that is able to generate digital marketing content that is hardly distinguishable from human-crafted creatives.

Aleksandr Farseev, a research professor from ITMO's Information Technologies and Programming Department, has co-founded and is currently leading SoMin.ai, an AI-driven digital ad targeting and optimization platform. The company was founded in 2018, joined ITMO's Acceleration Program in 2019, and in early 2021, it has successfully initiated a joint collaboration with OpenAI, Elon Musk's famous startup focusing on the development of cutting-edge AI technology.

A very limited number of companies and universities receive access to GPT-3 for their projects, and the selection process is rigorous. Once selected, their research teams can use OpenAI's API and products, in exchange for the development of new case studies, feedback, and participation in joint collaborative projects. SoMin.ai will use the GPT-3 network for AI-driven digital marketing content generation.

"For this very purpose, at ITMO's Machine Learning Lab and by the efforts of SoMin.ai engineers, GPT-3 now undergoes deep fine-tuning to finally close the gap created by the imperfection of human-machine interaction in the field of digital marketing. With that much variety of paid and organic content, the "Facebooks and Googles of our world" will be able to fully leverage on their dynamic content optimization infrastructure, predicting the exact match between a user and the content they would desire to consume the most. This will make digital advertising substantially more cost-efficient regardless of the objective one might want to achieve: from awareness, through clicks, and all the way to conversions. OpenAI's team has appreciated our approach, and have particularly noted the complexity and the unique nature of the problems we are dealing with. That is why, after careful evaluation, they have given us private beta access to GPT-3 and other OpenAI technological solutions, hoping for a long-lasting collaboration in the field of AI-driven digital marketing. We have already completed our final tests, and next month, we'll be releasing the product beta."

ITMO students are also involved in the project, and we expect this collaboration to contribute significantly to the research efforts of the Machine Learning Lab.

This coming March 2021, ITMO researchers and their colleagues from Singapore will present at the WSDM conference, one of the world's leading conferences on artificial intelligence and data mining. At the conference, Prof. Farseev and his research team will share with the research community their findings that were recently published in a research paper. Previously, SoMin.ai platform was also awarded the Gartner Cool Vendor Award in AI for Marketing 2020 award— a prestigious title that is only given to 3 companies per year worldwide for groundbreaking innovation and business achievements.
