Conference to discuss sensing technology developments and opportunities
The Sensors & Instrumentation KTN is organising a conference and exhibition, 'Intelligent Sensing Programme' (ISP), for developers, suppliers and end-users of sensor systems and instrumentation on 16 June at IET, Savoy Place, London. Now in its 7th year, this event will update you on sensor technology requirements and developments and will highlight new opportunities in sensing technologies.
The industrial and research role of sensors and associated instrumentation technologies has never been greater. However, industry demands are increasingly stringent and sophisticated, requiring innovative development of sensor technology. There is also huge pressure on companies to deliver an increase in shareholder value without compromising quality and safety. The BP oil spill in the US has highlighted the importance of monitoring assets and infrastructure to prevent financial, environmental and reputational damage.
Sensors are also of strategic importance in defence and security, medicine and healthcare, energy and the environment and increasingly in consumer markets. Sensing technologies will arguably play an important role in solving some of the grand challenges facing our country. As the technologies are changing so quickly, it is important that developers and manufacturers keep abreast of new innovations and changing customer demands to remain competitive.
The ISP conference will see leading industrial players and scientists sharing their vision on the impacts of sensing technologies in different industrial sectors and provide a window on their activities. The first speaker of the day is Wing Commander Jim Pennycook, the military advisor to the Director Science & Technology Operations, Ministry of Defence. He will outline the strategic role of sensors in defence technologies and the military requirements. This will be followed by a talk from Dr. Carl Johnstone from Network Rail who will provide a 'wish list' of their technology needs.
The other speakers include Dr. Christopher Harrison from Schlumberger, who will highlight advances in miniaturised sensors for oilfield sensing; Dr. Xiabing Huang, from Moor Instruments Ltd presenting the development of a Speckle Contrast Blood Flow Imager and its applications, and Colin Harper who will highlight the aspirations of QinetiQ in security, energy and environment along with collaboration strategies. The event will also see presentations on innovative sensing technologies and funding opportunities from the FP7 National contact point, University of Surrey, Department of Business, Innovation and Skills and Frost and Sullivan.
The event promises plenty of networking opportunities and is a vital place for you to exchange knowledge and find new business.
