SAGE to publish the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists

SAGE, the world's fifth leading independent and academic publisher, today announced a new agreement to publish the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists from September 2010.

Founded in 1945 by scientists, engineers, and other experts who had created the atomic bomb as part of the Manhattan Project, the Bulletin informs the public about threats to the survival and development of humanity from nuclear weapons, climate change, and emerging technologies in the life sciences.

The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists as an organisation is most famous for the 'Doomsday Clock' that displays in terms of 'minutes to midnight' how close humanity is to catastrophic destruction. It has only recently been reset backwards to read six minutes to midnight, having moved as close as two minutes to midnight in 1953.

The award-winning magazine is recognized worldwide as a key communications outlet, bridging the gap between experts and lay audiences and contributing to both public discussion and the global security agenda. Early contributors include Robert Oppenheimer, Albert Einstein and Bertrand Russell, and the board of sponsors currently includes 19 Nobel Laureates.
