Neurorehabilitation symposium to be held in Atlanta in August

Scientists and engineers from around the globe will gather in August to share new information regarding neurorehabilitation advances for people with neurological movement disorders, including spinal cord and brain injures.

The 2010 North American Neurorehabilitation Symposium is scheduled for Aug. 27-28 at Shepherd Center, an Atlanta-based facility for medical treatment, research and rehabilitation for people with brain and/or spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis and other neuromuscular diseases. Shepherd is co-hosting the symposium with Hocoma, a Swiss medical technology company that specializes in robotic rehabilitation therapy for neurological movement disorders. Its products include Lokomat®, Armeo® and Erigo®.

Topics will include motor learning and motor control, robotic technology in rehabilitation and motivating patients with virtual environments, as well as research in spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy and other pathologies.

The conference is expected to bring together scientists and engineers from highly recognized institutions worldwide and clinical users of innovative therapeutic methods and technologies.

The event is intended to offer clinicians and scientists a valuable platform to discuss trends, share expertise, exchange ideas and gain knowledge to assess and use new technologies and therapy concepts in their daily practice.
