AIAA to present technical achievement awards
Reston, Va. - The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) will present the technical achievement awards at a noon luncheon on July 27 as part of the 8th International Energy Conversion Engineering Conference (IECEC), to be held July 25 at the Nashville Convention Center and Renaissance Hotel, Nashville, Tenn. The awardees are:
- Edward M. Gaddy of the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, who will receive the AIAA 2010 Aerospace Power Systems Award. The award is presented for a significant contribution in the broad field of aerospace power systems, specifically as related to the application of engineering sciences and systems engineering to the production, storage, distribution, and processing of aerospace power. Gaddy is being recognized for over forty years of outstanding contributions in the field of space photovoltaics, for efforts to develop cost-effective improvements to solar arrays and increase the reliability of space photovoltaic systems, and for imparting knowledge of those systems to the next generation of scientists and engineers.
- Essam Khalil, professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt, who will receive the AIAA 2010 Energy Systems Award. The award is presented for significant contribution in the broad field of energy systems, specifically as related to the application of engineering sciences and systems engineering to the production, storage, distribution, and conservation of energy. Khalil is being recognized for outstanding contributions in the design, development and application of energy efficient combustors, furnaces, and buildings, and for his research contributions in education, research, and consulting.
